No Shortcuts in Life (but not in Excel MotherFucker!!)
You’ve probably heard there are no shortcuts in life. I’m not the fucking Buddha so I’ll leave that existential shit to someone else. In Excel, my mouse using neophyte, there are some sweet goddamn shortcuts you need to get on quickly.
You use the mouse in Excel? No no, please tell me this is some kind of sick joke. You can’t be a boss using the mouse - it’s like training wheels on your bike. Time to put on your big boy/girl pants and navigate Excel like you give a fuck.
First Shortcut to Boss
Move through Excel with Ctrl + Arrow Key. This will move the cursor from the current cell to the next not empty cell.
Let’s say you have a table with ten thousand contiguous rows and you need to get to the bottom. Ctrl + Down Arrow and you will be at the bottom of the table. No scrolling with the mouse. Like ever...
Oh but what if there are blanks mixed in such that there isn’t column with a complete set of rows? Then the shortcut will stop at each blank row, right? It sure will.
Simply move your cursor outside of your table to a blank column. Then hit Cntrl + Down Arrow to get to the very bottom of Excel. Left/Right Arrow over to a column that is under your table (if your table starts in Col A then you can use Cntrl + Left Arrow to move all the way to “A”). Now just use Cntrl + Up Arrow to get to the bottom of the table.
Once you have that little three step maneuver down you’ll never use the mouse again. At least to navigate across your spreadsheet...
